Conservatives conceded Hollywood to leftists years ago.
An industry that once had several prominent conservatives has morphed into a one-party system with a few conservatives scattered about, many hiding their views for fear of blacklisting.
However, one show’s racist propaganda should give conservatives a reason to push back and reclaim a piece of Hollywood territory.
Marvel Studios has essentially become a printing press for Disney. Every Marvel film adaptation has been a massive commercial hit with plenty of critical acclaim to follow.
Marvel’s television track record, however, has been hit-or-miss. “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” has done relatively well for ABC, and “Daredevil” drew raves after season one.
However, “Iron Fist” and “Inhumans” have failed to connect with audiences.
“Cloak & Dagger,” Marvel’s latest television venture, is aimed at tweens and airs on Freeform (formerly ABC Family).
The show tells the story two of star-crossed teens with burgeoning superpowers who begin to fall in love.
Cloak is a black guy who grew up privileged, and Dagger is a white girl who grew up on the wrong side of the tracks.
The concept goes off the rails when the two leads have an argument over whose oppression was more burdensome.
Dagger, a street urchin, details horrors of abject poverty and sexual abuse, but Cloak plays the race card in a ridiculous rant.
He says: “You can walk into any room in this world and never be questioned! Try walking into a department store looking like me… This whole country’s trying to kill me every day.”
This is absurd. The idea that it’s better to be destitute and white than rich and black is preposterous and insulting to the black people who suffered for their children to experience prosperity.
This type of “woke” leftist messaging is not empowering. It’s the opposite. It robs people of their agency.
A poll from the late 1990s showed that black teens were only mildly concerned with day-to-day racism, and had higher self-esteem than white teens.
However, the Barack Obama presidency pushed race relations back decades. Instead of trying to bring the nation together, Obama sowed seeds of racial division to win reelection.
Leftists have done their best to exacerbate that chasm, and the country is now so sensitive, people’s careers can be ruined for even the slightest whiff of racial impropriety.
For example, a white ESPN tennis commentator was fired for praising Serena Williams’s use of “guerrilla” tactics to overwhelm her opponent.
Leftists heard “gorilla,” which meant the announcer had to go posthaste.
One might say that “Cloak & Dagger” is an insignificant teen show, but the left has long understood that culture moves the political needle.
The left has controlled the culture for decades, which has allowed them to portray conservatives on the screen as heartless caricatures and bigoted rubes.
It’s the reason why there are endless movies and shows that accurately detail the horrors of Nazi Germany, but virtually none that delve into the atrocities committed by communists in the Soviet Union, Maoist China, Cambodia, etc…
The left has a very uncomfortable relationship with these totalitarian regimes, and they do their best to obscure it through academia and Hollywood.
Conservatives can’t allow leftists to rewrite history and push odious propaganda to impressionable teenagers through a shiny superhero lens.
