Left-wing political pundits have gone off the deep end.
Trump Derangement Syndrome has caused them to see Nazis everywhere, and dread the impending death squads that are going to march them to the prison camps.
But one left-wing talk show host might’ve taken the cake for derangement with what he said about Donald Trump.
Bill Maher is on a roll, and not a good one.
The comic-turned-political talk show host built a career on being a politically incorrect free speech absolutist, but he’s always been entrenched on the left.
However, Maher’s rhetoric has become increasingly radical, possibly as a sop to the left after he got in hot water for using the n-word as a joke in an awkward segment with Republican Senator Ben Sasse.
Since then, Maher has called for a recession to get rid of Trump, then doubled down on the asinine statement.
And recently during an unhinged segment with rabid leftist documentarian Michael Moore, Maher suggested Trump won’t go away…even if he loses in 2020.
“I don’t know if we’re ever going to win another election, because I keep saying, and I truly believe, he is going to go when he wants to go, and that includes losing the 2020 election.”
Barring some incredibly liberal interpretation of Maher’s words, it’s clear he “truly believes” Trump is now a banana republic dictator who has declared himself president for life.
Perhaps it’s not surprising Maher’s mind went there because leftists are quite comfortable with dictators who dismantle the democratic process: Mao in China (and current president Xi Jinping), Castro in Cuba, and the Kim dynasty in North Korea, the world’s last Stalinist regime.
Maher’s words are shocking.
His mind has been so corrupted by TDS, he honestly believes term limits are about to be jettisoned.
Maher’s basis for such moral panic is a mystery to everyone. Thus far, Trump has governed conservatively.
He cut taxes, rolled back regulations, and looked to contract the power of the executive branch, instead of expanding it, as did Barack Obama.
The great irony in Maher’s statement is that progressive hero Franklin D. Roosevelt was the only president to serve more than two terms; he was re-elected three times but died in office early in his fourth term.
The Constitution was amended shortly after to limit the president to two terms. Trump appointed originalist Neil Gorsuch to the Supreme Court, and will likely seek to appoint another originalist to replace outgoing justice,Anthony Kennedy.
If Maher’s laughable scenario came true, Trump would have a hard time defying the constitutionalists he put on the bench.
If Maher believes Trump would use extrajudicial means to stay in power, a truly fascist act, perhaps he should tell the left it’s not a great idea to confiscate guns and give them all to the government.
Leftists like Maher don’t think that far ahead. They’re entirely consumed by their feelings in the moment. Maher felt like having a temper tantrum, so he said something incredibly stupid.
Maher is stubborn, so don’t be surprised if he comes up with an embarrassing rationale for why he truly believes Trump won’t leave office.
It wouldn’t be the first time.
